Police have said the incident has been reported from the so-called railway slum in the capital's Shahjahanpur area.

The fire broke out at one of the shanties in the slum early on Saturday, said Shahjahanpur police Inspector Abdul Mabud.

"A man identified as Shipon, who was inside, was burnt to death," he told bdnews24.com.

The victim's family, however, filed a case with the police claiming it was a murder, said the police officer.

The fire service said it had received reports of a fire around 4am.

"Two shanties of the slum have been completely burnt. One Shipon died in the fire," said Palash Chandra Modak, the duty officer at the central control room.
