Fifth victim of Ashulia lighter factory fire dies from injuries

The fire at a factory in Dhaka's Ashulia has claimed another life, taking the death toll in the Nov 22 incident to five.

A total of 26 female workers were burnt when flames erupted at the gas lighter manufacturing facility of Colour Max BD.

Twenty of them were brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital's (DMCH) burns unit.

On Tuesday, Mehera Khatun died at the hospital.

The 32-year-old, who had suffered 40 percent burns, succumbed to her injuries around 9:30pm, said burns unit's Resident Doctor Partha Shankar Paul.

"The fire has claimed five lives until now. Another 12 are being still treated," he told bdnews24.com.

Child worker dies in Hazaribagh factory fire

One of the four minors injured in a factory fire in capital Dhaka has died.

On Dec 1, a fire broke out at a factory making wallets in Hazaribagh burning four children, including two workers.

They were taken to the DMCH burns unit.

Thirteen-year-old 'Sajib', who worked at the factory, died on Tuesday evening.

DMCH's Dr Paul said he had been admitted with 60 percent burns.

Two others injured in the fire are still being treated while another had been discharged by the hospital.
