Bangladesh renews support to Palestine on the International Day of Solidarity

Bangladesh has reiterated its support in favour of establishing the State of Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated the position again in a message on Monday, on the eve of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Nov 29.

“On the auspicious occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Bangladesh joins the international community in reaffirming its commitment to the inalienable right of the people of Palestine to self-determination and support to their five-decade long struggle for peace, stability and justice,” read the message.

“Our unwavering solidarity to the Palestinian brethrens and their legitimate aspirations for an independent State of Palestine is derived from our constitutional obligation to “...support oppressed peoples throughout the world waging a just struggle against imperialism, colonialism, or racialism”.

“I, therefore, wish to reiterate our position in favour of establishing the State of Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the prime minister said.

She said: “Having experienced aggression and crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971, Bangladesh condemns the heinous attacks on the people of Palestine, and denounces the illegal settlements, including the expansion plans, and any other action by the occupying force, that obstructs negotiations towards a viable two-State solution.”

“We call upon the international community to impress upon the occupying power to cease systematic violation of human rights and international humanitarian law as well as its unjust acts of collective punishment unleashed against the people of Palestine, particularly those in Gaza.

“Bangladesh believes that implementation of the relevant UN resolutions, the Road Map, the Arab Peace Plan and the efforts made by the Quartet are critical for achieving a durable solution to the long-standing issue of Palestine,” Hasina added.
