Third victim of Ashulia lighter factory fire dies

A third female worker has succumbed to the burns she sustained in the lighter factory fire at Dhaka’s Ashulia six days ago.

Mahmuda Akhtar passed away around 9am on Monday, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) burns unit doctor Partha Shankar Das. 
 
The 26-year-old had suffered 30 percent burns.
 
She is the third life claimed by the fire. 
 
Sixteen-year-old ‘Akhi’ and 18-year-old Roki Akhtar had previously passed away while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.
 
A total of 26 workers, all of them females, had suffered burns on Nov 22, when flames erupted at the 'Colour Max BD Ltd' gas lighter factory at Ashulia.
 
Twenty victims had been admitted to the DMCH. Doctors had warned that all of them were in critical condition.
