She was attacked violently on Oct 3 on the Sylhet MC College campus by Badrul Alam, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Shahjalal University of Science and Technology unit.

Khadiza was brought to Dhaka's Square Hospital the following day in serious condition amidst a wave of protests.

She had received severe injuries in her brain, head, hands and legs in the machete attack.

She had undergone three surgeries and was put on life support until Oct 13.

A week later, her condition improved and the nurses were able to put her in a wheelchair for a spin.

On Thursday, Khadiza's brother Sharnan Haque posted a picture of her sitting on the bed.

Her father Masuk Mia told bdnews24.com on Friday that a hospital staffer had taken the picture and sent to them.

He said her condition is now 'better' and they plan to take her to Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) at Dhaka's Savar on Monday.

"She can speak now, but her left hand and leg are still paralysed…She is also being able to eat well."

Khadiza spoke to a television channel on Friday, when she said that she wanted to continue her studies and pursue a career in banking.

"I hope no one has to go through what I have experienced."
