Warrants issued for Bulu, 16 other BNP members in blast case

A court has issued arrest warrants for BNP Joint Secretary Barkatullah Bulu and 16 other party members in an explosive substances case filed at the Mirpur Police Station in Dhaka.

The order was issued by Dhaka Special Tribunal – 1 Justice Kamrul Hossain Molla after consideration of the chargesheet, said Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal.

Among the 36 suspects accused in the case,  18 are out on bail and two are in prison, the prosecutor told bdnews24.com.

“The court has issued arrest warrants against the others,” he said.

BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and BNP Advisor to the Chairperson Aman Ullah Aman are among those who have been released on bail in the case.

In addition to Bulu, arrest warrants have been issued against the BNP Chairperson’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan and former Chhatra Dal Chairperson Azizul Bari Helal.

The case was started on Mar 19, 2015 by Mirpur Police Station SI Khandker Rajib Ahmed.

SI Arifur Rahman submitted the chargesheet against 36 suspects on Aug 7 this year.

According to the chargesheet, 36 suspects had gathered at the Senpara Parbata Social Welfare Association office. 

Most fled when police arrived, but a BNP activist named Manik Hossain was arrested with a hand bomb and three petrol bombs.
