Two more arrested in Santal assault case in Gaibandha

Police have arrested two more persons on Saturday over the attacks on Santals at Gaibandha earlier this month.

Gobindaganj police Sub Inspector Abul Kalam Azad said 42-year-old Sarwar Hossain and 50-year-old Akbar Ali were arrested late on Friday

The number of arrests now stands at 10 in the case filed on Wednesday by Swapan Mormu of Mualiparha village accusing around 600 unidentified people.

On Nov 6, a clash erupted when workers of Rangpur Sugar Mills tried to evict Santals from a land in Gobindaganj Upazila that they claimed it belonged to the mill.

Police said it had opened fire to stop the clash, which left three Santals killed and many more injured.

Earlier, police arrested five on the same day and three more on the following day.
