The machines began work on a project in Dhaka’s Palashi for the first time on Saturday.

At the inaugural ceremony for the machine Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon called the machines a sophisticated step forward and said they would reduce the construction cost by 40 to 45 percent.

“Roads which previously cost Tk 10 million to make will now cost us Tk 6 million at most,” he said. “This is a huge cost saving measure.”

Repeated development work leads to a steady increase in the height, which causes flooding of roadside buildings, he added.

As the new machines will break up the road before laying new carpeting, it should no longer lead to higher roads.

The cold milling machines will be the first of their kind used for road development in Bangladesh, says Mayor Khokon.

He claims the new cold recycling asphalt plant does not emit carbon and will not lead to smoke or dust pollution.

“The plant is environmentally friendly and will reduce carbon emissions by 90 percent,” he said.
