ACC challenges MP Badi's bail, acquittal

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has challenged Cox’s Bazar MP Abdur Rahman Badi's bail and his acquittal from charges of concealing wealth information.

It has moved the Supreme Court's chamber judge against the bail and filed a petition with the High Court against the trial court's verdict.

ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan told bdnews24.com that they filed the petitions on Thursday.

He said they have sought a stay on the six-month interim bail granted by the High Court. 

On Nov 2, Dhaka's Special Judge's Court delivered the verdict in the graft case against the Awami League lawmaker.

Badi has been found guilty of concealing wealth information from the ACC , for which he was sentenced to a three-year prison term as well as fined by Tk 1 million.

On Nov 10, Badi filed an appeal with the High Court. The matter was heard on Wednesday, when his counsels petitioned for bail and to waive the fines.

The bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus stayed the fined and granted a six-month interim bail.

According to the case details, Badi provided false information in his affidavits submitted to the Election Commission in 2008 and 2013 and also sought to conceal information on his personal wealth worth Tk 108.68 million.

The chargesheet said Badi had accumulated more than Tk 63 million disproportionate to the known sources of his income and concealed information from the ACC on assets worth more than Tk 39 million.
