The gunfight took place after police received a tip-off about an alleged robbery taking place at Goyeshbarhi village on early Friday, RAB-12 Pabna Camp Commander Bina Rani Das has said.

The deceased men were regional leaders of the extremist leftist outfit ‘Nakshal’, according to police.

The men have been identified as Byaparhi aka 'Bipul' of Santhia’s Madarbarhi village and Moyen Uddin Modon of Paiksha village also located at Santhia Upazila.

They are accused in several other cases besides the case over the murder of Shahjahan Master, according to Ataikula police OC Abdur Razzak. The RAB, he said, began the raid after learning that a group of robbers were getting ready to attack a home in the village.

“The miscreants began firing after sensing RAB's presence. The RAB fired back. Two bodies were found after the elite force personnel searched the area,” he said.

Two firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the crime scene, said OC Abdur.
