The one hour test for the 'Gha' unit (social science faculty) was held at 99 centres across the capital on Friday morning.

DU acting Poctor Amzad Ali said the seven had been handed over to Shahbagh police.

A total of 109,170 aspirants sat for the exam, which can accommodate only 1,540 candidates.

Those detained were Tarequl Islam Tuhin from Nilkhet High School, Abdullah Al Mohoshi and Azimul Abid Khan from Curzon Hall, Milon Hossain from Willes Little Flower School, Touhidul Islam Sabuj and Enamul Hoque from Mohammadpur Central University College and Abu Sayeed from Ahmed Bawani School and College.

Tuhin was caught with a tiny device plugged into his ear that works as a headphone, together with a device that functions as a mobile phone in his bag. Milon was found using a similar device at Willes Little Flower School, said sources at the proctor's office.

Two candidates - Rabbik Hasan Mon and Mokbul Hossain - were freed after interrogation.

"They were caught from in front of their centres but later were freed as they were not found with phones inside the hall. Also they helped by providing information about a fraud gang," said the proctor.

Amzad Ali told bdnews24.com that Abu Sayeed introduced Tomal, Mohoshi and Rifat to a middleman, who helped them by supplying questions.

Mohoshi and Rifat entered the centre with mobile phones and started exchanging questions and answers through Whatsapp.

Sobuj and Enamul were caught while receiving answers through SMS.

Mon was caught from outside the examination hall, 14 minutes into the exam, while receiving questions on his mobile phone.

"He wanted to verify the answers before entering the hall. He said that Babul Sarker, general secretary of Leather Engineering Institute unit of the Chhatra League was supplying him the questions," said Proctor Amzad.

bdnews24.com could not reach Babul immediately for his response.
