Police found the body of the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at his home on Wednesday and sent it for autopsy.

On Tuesday, they recovered the body of an eight-grade girl, who cannot be named either because of her age, from her home in the district's Kaliakoir Upazila.

Her family claimed that she had hanged herself after being 'regularly harassed' by the boy.

The girl's father started a case the same day accusing the teenage boy, a ninth-grader at a local school of provocation.

Quoting the girl's family, police said on Tuesday the boy had been harassing her on way to school.

"The family claimed the girl had skipped school for a few days. But the boy continued to harass her when she had resumed school and on Tuesday she hanged herself in her room," said Sub-Inspector Nasima Akter of Kaliakoir police.

The girl's brother told local journalists on Tuesday that they had informed the boy's family, but the complaint 'went unheeded'. He claimed that the boy had been 'threatening' them.

"Early on Tuesday morning, my mother found the boy near our home, but he fled as soon as she approached him. My sister was later found dead in her room."

Police said the boy had fled from his home and gone to a relative's home after the girl’s suicide.

He had hanged himself sometime in the night, according to Kaliakoir police's Inspector Rafiqul Islam.

The boy's mother claimed the two were involved in a romantic relationship, he said.

"She said her son went to the girl's home on Tuesday night. He was beaten by the girl's family when the two were found in the same room. He hanged himself at his aunt's home after hearing of the girl’s suicide."

Islam said police had found a picture of the two at the boy's home and that they are cross-checking the claims made by the two families.
