Police arrest four ‘JMB operatives’ after raiding hideout in Bagerhat

Police in Bagerhat have arrested four suspected activists of militant group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) during a raid.

Acting on a tip-off of some operatives of the banned outfit had gathered at a village in Kochua Upazila, a house was raided around 2am on Tuesday, said Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy.

“As the police reached there, the JMB men hurled crude bombs. Police opened fired in retaliation and detained four. The rest managed to escape,” he said.

Police said a firearm, bullets and five crude bombs were found at the scene.

Those arrested in the raid at Kholishakhali village of Moghiya Union have been identified as ‘Akash’, 19, ‘Habibullah’, 19, ‘Kabirul’, 26, and Mizanur Rahman, 28, said SP Roy.

He added three policemen were also injured in the raid and received first aid at a local hospital.
