The university syndicate took the decision after a ‘fact finding’ committee submitted its report on Sunday, said syndicate member Prof Kabir Hossain.

He told bdnews24.com that Badrul got admitted to the economics department of SUST in 2008-09 academic sessions and eventually became irregular in classes.

An assistant secretary of SUST unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Badrul waylaid Khadiza on her way to Sylhet MC College on Oct 3 and hacked her indiscriminately.

SUST suspended Badrul the same day in an emergency syndicate meeting and formed a three-member ‘fact finding’ committee headed by acting Proctor Rashed Talukdar.

Hailing from Munirgati village under Chhataka Upazila of Sunamganj, BCL leader Badrul has given confessional statements to court and currently is in Sylhet jail.

Khadiza, who received severe injuries in her brain, head, hands and legs in the machete attack, is undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in Dhaka.

After staying on life support for three days her condition was improving, said physicians.
