Police claim death of suspect in 14 cases in Savar 'shootout’

A suspect charged in 14 criminal cases has been killed in a ‘shootout’ in Savar, say police.

The incident took place early on Sunday morning in Charigram, said Ashulia Station OC Muhsinul Kader.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Rasel Dewan, the son of Piar Ali who hails from Niribili village in Ashulia.

Rasel had been arrested on Saturday, the OC said.

After his confession , a police team had took him on a raid to recover weapons , the OC said.

“When the police team reached Charigram they were attacked by a group of criminals,” the OC said.

“Police fired back in self-defence and Rasel was hit in the ensuing gunfight. He was taken to Nabinagar hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

Police recovered three firearms from the spot, said OC Muhsinul.

“Rasel was wanted in fourteen cases, including on charges of robbery, extortion, murder and possessing illegal firearms in Ashulia, Savar and Manikganj.”
