On Friday, Khadiza was allowed solid food, they said.

Despite improvement in her health condition, she is not yet being able to recognise anyone, her uncle Abdul Baset said.

Square Hospitals’ Medicine and Critical Care Unit Consultant Dr Mirza Nazim Uddin advised relatives that there is nothing to be concerned over the matter and termed the memory loss as 'process of rehabilitation'.

"She will gradually be able to recognise everyone,” he said.

"A few days ago she was being fed through a pipe. Now she can chew and eat,” he said.

On Thursday, nurses even took Khadiza for a spin on a wheelchair, the doctor said.

Sylhet Government Women's College student Khadiza has been receiving treatment at the hospital in Dhaka for critical wounds she sustained during an Oct 3 attack on her by Badrul Alam, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Shahjalal University of Science and Technology unit.

Khadiza was admitted to the hospital a day after the attack. After a long surgery she was put on life support which was removed on Oct 13 after her condition had improved.

On Oct 17, another surgery was performed on her right hand to repair the muscle chain which was cut when she had tried to ward off the blows of the sharp weapon.

However, her family is still anxious about her recovery. They wish to take her abroad for better treatment.
