Motaleb Hossain Lipu received, in medical terminology, ‘blunt force trauma to head’ that caused his death, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) forensic department's Senior Lecturer Dr Enamul Haqueon said Thursday.

"Lipu died after receiving a severe blow on the right side of his head,” he added.

"A fall from the roof could have caused that or it could also be the result of a strike by a heavy roller or stick. Nearly every bone in his head has been broken. There are also some other wounds on his body."

"But we didn't find any sharp weapon wounds," Haque added.

Earlier in the morning, police had sent Lipu's body to RMCH for autopsy after recovering his naked dead body from a drain near the dining hall of RU's Nawab Abdul Latif Hall.

Police initially had said that Lipu was murdered. The law enforcers took his roommate Monirul Islam and friend 'Pradip' to police station for preliminary questioning.

Lipu's uncle Bashir Uddin lodged a murder case with Matihar police accusing unknown persons, OC Humayun Kabir told bdnews24.com.

Bashir said, "Lipu had received a threat from someone several days ago. He had told me about this before leaving home for RU on Tuesday. I have told police about the people who had threatened him."

Lipu was a second year student of mass communication and journalism and a resident of Room No. 253 at the hall.

RU Proctor Prof Mujibul Haque Azad Khan told bdnews24.com that a hall staff had first spotted the body in the morning. Later police came and sent it to the RMCH for autopsy.

After the post-mortem examination, Lipu's body was handed over to the teachers of his department around 3pm.

Following a funeral prayer at the university's Central Mosque at 4:30pm the body was sent to his village home in Jhenaidah's Harinakundu.
