He informed President Hamid of his intention to continue to build on Denmark’s longstanding relationship with Bangladesh through partnerships in development, foreign policy and trade.

Green growth solutions were highlighted as an area of mutual interest, the Danish embassy said in a statement.

The ambassador recalled how the friendship between the countries started soon after Bangladesh’s independence and has grown significantly ever since.

“I am looking forward to deepening the bonds of friendship between our two nations during my stay in Bangladesh. Along with strengthening existing cooperation, I will be exploring how we can help each other to address key challenges that we face in today’s globalised world’’, he said following the ceremony.

Winther arrived in Bangladesh on Sep 7. This is his third post as ambassador. He previously served in Thailand and Iraq.

In a career spanning over nearly three decades, Winther has held important positions at various Danish missions abroad and also within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark.
He has also worked as an Associate Professor at Copenhagen University and at Copenhagen Business School.
Ambassador Winther is married to Ratanawadee Hemniti Winther, a Thai-born Canadian citizen who is currently Chairperson of AIP Foundation Thailand, an international NGO promoting road safety.
