The dead body was found early on Tuesday next to Iqra Madrasa in Godkhali area, said Jhikargachha police OC Abu Saleh Masud Karim.

He identified the victim as 30-year-old Alamgir Hossain, of Godkhali Union.

“Police recovered the body around 7am after being notified by the locals,” said OC Karim. “He was shot in the head and throat.”

“We also recovered a firearm and two different types of ammunition from the spot,” he said.

When questioned about possible motives, the OC said locals had reported a shootout around Monday midnight between the supporters of Union Parishad member Rahazzan Sardar, who was killed last week, and their rivals.

Police that same night had arrested eight people in connection with the murder of Rahazzan, but OC Karim had not released the names of the arrestees.

Rahazzan, 40, was shot dead on Oct 13 at a barbershop in Godkhali Bazar.

His brother Hasan Sardar was kidnapped and shot dead near that market on July 4, said their younger brother Mizanur Rahman.
