Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit in India.

She is scheduled to leave for Goa on Sunday morning.

India is the current chair of the five-country group, BRICS, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, accounting for 42 percent of the world population and a combined GDP of over $16 trillion.

 Bangladesh is a member of the Bay of Bengal initiative, BIMSTEC.

 The 8th BRICS summit will be held on Oct 15 and 16.

The prime minister will be joining other state leaders, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Michel Temer, South African President Jacob Zuma and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the summit.

 Other BIMSTEC representatives attending the summit are Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Maldives President Abdulla Yameen.

After her arrival at Goa on Sunday, Hasina will attend a luncheon with BIMSTEC leaders hosted by Goa's chief minister.

In the evening, she will be attending a retreat with the other BIMSTEC leaders.

Later in the day, Hasina is expected to hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The prime minister will return to Dhaka on Monday.
