Health Minister Mohammed Nasim, after visiting Khadiza at Square Hospital in Dhaka on Thursday, said she was taken off life support earlier in the day as her condition improved further.

"She can move the right side of her body. The left side is still paralysed," the minister told reporters.

"Everything necessary for her treatment is being done," he said and added that there was 'no need' to take her abroad now.

Hacked on Oct 3 in Sylhet by her 'disgruntled boyfriend' Badrul Alam, a leader of BCL's Shahjalal University of Science and Technology unit, Khadiza was taken to Dhaka the following day amidst a wave of protests.

Doctors said she had five to 10 percent chance to recover, but now the girl is responding.

The health minister said, "Attacker Badrul has faced action. He will be given tough punishment in line with law. No criminal, no matter who he or she is, will be spared."
