Bangladesh treats President Xi to Kachchi Biryani, other Dhakai delicacies

President Xi Jinping has been treated to an exclusively designed dinner where gastronomic delights such as Dhakai Kachchi Biryani and Malaichop along with Chinese dishes tickled his taste buds.

President Md Abdul Hamid hosted the state banquet at the Bangabhaban in honour of his Chinese counterpart and his entourage. Xi is the first Chinese head of state in 30 years who set foot in Bangladesh Friday for a two-day visit.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the lavish seven-course dinner along with senior Cabinet colleagues Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, and Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.

Peppi Kiviniemi-Siddiq, wife of nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq, accompanied the prime minister.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, and Prime Minister’s Special Envoy and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad also joined Xi, the man of the moment, in his tryst with Bangladeshi delicacies.

A wide spread of Bangladeshi and Chinese cuisine was on Xi’s platter.

Menu

Starter: Poached Giant King Prawn served with mango and apple salsa

Soup: Cream of mushroom Soup served with assorted homemade breads.

Entrée: Smoked Eel fish on crispy salad bed with a drizzle of light oyster sauce.

Three Main dishes: Chicken Tikka with minted house Sauce and poppadum; Kachchi Biriyani with Shami Kabab served with Aloo-Bukhara Chuteny and Yogurt Dressing; Szechuan Style Shredded Beef with onions, capsicum and mixed vegetables served with plain rice.

Desserts: Traditional Malaichop, seasonal fresh fruits and tea and freshly brewed coffee with Petit Fours.

Foods were prepared at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargoan and served by its chefs.

A cultural troupe performed performances during the dinner. The Chinese president signed the visitor book before leaving the Bangabhaban around8:30pm.

Before the dinner, the two presidents held a bilateral meeting.

Earlier, Hamid received Xi at the airport in a state honour. Prime Minister Hasina will see him off on Saturday morning.
