Narayanganj court sends two JMB operatives to jail for 20 years

A Narayanganj court has sent two operatives of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh to jail for 20 years in a case under the Explosives Act.

Kamrun Nahar, the judge of Special Tribunal-7 and Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court delivered the verdict on Monday.

Convicts Saiful Islam and ‘Mahbub’ were present. They were also handed Tk 20,000 fine each and six months additional jail term in case of failure to pay the fines.

State counsel Additional Public Prosecutor Jasmine Ahmed, referring to the documents of the 2007 case, said Rapid Action Battalion detectives arrested Saiful, a member of JMB’s executive council on Dec 29, 2006 from Tangail with a huge amount of arms and ammunition.

Following a lead given by Saiful, Mahbub was arrested from Narayanganj the next week.

Twenty-one hand grenades, explosives and jihadi books were seized from his house.
