The Sylhet Government Women's College student was mercilessly attacked at MC College campus on Monday by Badrul Alam, an economics department student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

Badrul, who is also assistant secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) university unit, was detained by police right after the incident.

Khadiza, who was rushed to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in the city, was transferred to Dhaka in the early hours of Tuesday.

After performing surgery on her on Tuesday, doctors appeared pessimistic about her chances of surviving the critical wounds inflicted on her.

On Wednesday, the Medical and Critical Care Department Consultant at Square Hospital, Mirza Nazim Uddin, said, "Her condition remains unchanged. Her status can be assessed after 72 hours."
