"We hope it is possible to uproot tobacco from Bangladesh within 2040," Kamal said at an anti-tobacco conference in Dhaka on Saturday.

Referring to Prime Minister Hasina's speech hoping to build a tobacco-free country within 2040 at South Asian Speakers’ Summit on Achieving SDGs in January, he said, "The people of our country will be self-educated and aware of the harmful sides of tobacco by the time, I believe."

"No good effort goes in vain. No-one smokes at public transports or hotel-restaurants," he said and added that Tobacco Control Act would be prioritised in trainings of police.

National Heart Foundation, Association of Physicians of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Cancer Society, Bangladesh Lung Foundation and Bangladesh Society of Medicine organized the conference in association with Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids.
