The Emirates aircraft carrying her to Dhaka was scheduled to touch down at Shahjalal International Airport at 5:20pm on Friday.

The airline's flight schedule on Friday afternoon showed the possible arrival time of the aircraft at 6:38pm.

An Emirates official told bdnews24.com the aircraft took more time at its stoppage in Dubai, leading to the delay.

"It will land at 6:48pm," he said.

He could not say anything about the reason behind the delay in Dubai.

Hasina left the US for Bangladesh on Thursday night, ending a 17-day trip to the US and Canada. She celebrated her birthday in the US with her son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy and his family on Sep 28 after attending the UN General Assembly.

In Canada, she attended the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund, which discussed global strategies to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria on Sep 16.

She conferred Bangladesh's 'Friends of Liberation War Honour' award on the late Canadian prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. His son and current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received the award.

She also received UN-women 'Planet 50-50 Champion' and Global Partnership Forum 'Agent of Change Award' during the visit.

Her Awami League party and its alliance, the 14-party combine, along with some other social and cultural organisations have planned a 'mass' reception to welcome her on her arrival.

Members of the organisations have lined up along the streets from the airport to the Ganabhaban in the afternoon.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday asked the Awami League leaders and activists to follow the law enforcers’ instructions and organise the reception in an orderly manner.

Asked about people’s concern over possibility of traffic congestions and lack of transportation due to the reception, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Traffic-North) Prabir Kumar Roy told bdnews24.com: “We don’t think there will much problem because tomorrow is Friday (a weekly holiday).”
