Man commits suicide after killing minor daughter in Sirajganj, police say

A man has committed suicide after murdering his 8-year-old daughter in Sirajganj, police say.

The deceased are Selim Ahmmed, 35, and his daughter 'Soha'.

Selim strangulated his daughter and hanged himself, police suspect.

Their bodies were recovered from their residence in Shahidganj area in the town at 12 noon on Friday, said Sirajganj police Sub-Inspector Nurul Islam.

According to Mahmudul Alam Shomrat, Selim’s younger brother, Soha’s mother Anwara Parvin had left home after giving birth to Soha. She united with her ‘lover’ and divorced Selim.

“Selim suffered an emotional trauma from this incident,” he told bdnews24.com.

Shomrat said: “Selim was having a brawl with Parvin and her father over phone for the last couple of days. He engaged in an argument on Thursday night as well.”

Shomrat claimed that his brother had committed suicide due to anxiety and frustration generated from tension in family.

Police too suspect the same.
