In April 2012, housewife Sathi Yasmin was burnt to death at her home in the city's Sahdur Morh neighbourhood.

On Sunday, the court sentenced the husband Md Arif, his two sisters-in-law Hanifa Hasan and Mahfuza Jannati to death.

Judge Md Monsur Alam of the district's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 acquitted Arif's mother Morzina Begum, Public Prosecutor Morzina Khatun said.

According to the files of the case started by Sathi's brother Sujon Hossain, she had to return to her father's house following tortures by Arif for dowry.

Arif had taken her back a few months before her death but started to press her again for dowry.

On Apr 4 2012, Arif and the others at his house set fire to Sathi at one stage of torture, Sujon alleged in the case. She died in a hospital later the same day.
