Separate road accidents on Tangail highway kill seven

Seven people, including two women and a child, have been killed and at least 17 others injured in two separate road accidents on Tangail highway.

The accidents happened when thousands are returning to Dhaka after celebrating Eid in their ancestral homes.

One accident occurred between Mirzapur's Ichhail and Analia Barhi, near the Bangabandhu Bridge, areas on Saturday morning, police and witnesses said.

Identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.

Gorhai highway police OC Khalilur Rahman Patwari said two people died on the spot when a Dhaka-bound bus and a brick-laden truck collided head-on at Icchail around 7am.

Three others were pronounced dead when 20 injured were rushed to Kumudini Hospital at Mirzapur, he said.

The 17 wounded are currently being treated there.

Within two hours, two motorcycle riders were killed at Analia Barhi after a head-on collision with a private car.

Bangabandhu Bridge Police Station (East) OC Md Asabur Rahman told bdnews24.com the men on the motorcycle was coming from Elenga. One of them was killed in the accident around 9am.

The other died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

At least 17 people were also killed in road traffic accidents in four districts on Friday.

Saturday's deaths have taken the total casualties to 44 in five days since the Eid holidays began last Tuesday.

People started flowing back to the capital as the holidays ended on Wednesday.
