President Hamid warns against misinterpretation of religion

President Md Abdul Hamid has wished the people a happy Eid-ul-Azha and urged all to remain alert against misinterpretation of religion that leads to anarchy in society.

The president gave the call while speaking at a programme in Bangabhaban on Tuesday to exchange Eid greetings with the people.
 
“The teaching of all major religions is human well being. No religion supports militancy and terrorism,” he said.
 
“Islam is the religion of peace. So we all will have to be alert so that no one can create anarchy in society by misinterpreting religion,” he added,
 
He also called for taking lessons from the sacrifice made by Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (A) which is observed during the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations through sacrifice of cattle.
 
"We have to emulate the teachings of Eid-ul-Azha and the heritage of communal harmony in our social and individual life for facilitating national development," he said.
 

The president exchanged Eid greetings with the people after offering prayers at the National Eidgah Maiddan.
He and his wife Rashida Khanom also hosted a reception for top government officials, celebrities and foreign diplomats.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha attended the reception.
Ministers, MPs envoys and chiefs of the three forces were also present.
