Plastic factory catches fire in Old Dhaka, three burnt

A fire at a plastic product manufacturing factory has burnt three people in Old Dhaka.

The fire broke out at the two-storey tin-shed structure at Islambagh around 1pm on Friday, said Fire Service control room officer Mahmudul Haque.

Five fire-fighting units put out the flames nearly an hour later, he said.

Chawkbazar police OC Shamim Ur Rashid Talukder told bdnews24.com that the two victims were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

He identified them as Md Humayun, 17, 'Matin', 25, and 'Baten', 30.

DMCH burns unit's resident physician Partha Shankar Pal told bdnews24.com that the condition of all three was critical. "All of them suffered 80 percent burns."

DMCH Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia said two of them were brought in first. The third person with the burns came in after a while.

Fire Service official Mizanur Rahman said they were yet to determine the cause of the fire, which damaged several houses in the vicinity.
