Nizam Uddin, 25, and Rokon Uddin, 24, were held on Wednesday from a house in the port city's Baklia.

Jihadi literature has been found in their possession, Deputy Police Commissioner Paritosh Ghosh told bdnews24.com.

Nizam, a law student at Chittagong University had been engaged with Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, since his college days, said the senior police officer.

“He used to live in Shah Amanat Residential Hall” Ghosh told the media on Thursday.

The other detained Rokon, hails from the district's Banshkhali Upazila. He studied up to grade five but have a good grip of using the social media, according to police.

Both of them have been actively working with the Ansarullah Bangla Team in Chittagong and planned to carry out destructive activities, said Ghosh.

“They exchanged books, memory cards and other training materials among themselves. They were in touch with those held in previous drives.”

He said informed that they were associated with Mus'ab Ibn Umair, an Ansarullah operative held from Chittagong's Sitakunda in July this year.

Nizam’s family claimed in a media briefing on Wednesday that he was picked up by the police on Sunday.

Police said it was a move to cover up as the family knew about Nizam’s involvement in militancy.
