Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla formally handed over a Tata microbus to the not-for-profit organisation on Tuesday, completing the two-phased project undertaken by his country.

Established in 1991, BERDO works to uplift the condition of the visually impaired community of Bangladesh.

Under the first phase of the project, a new third floor of the BERDO building was constructed. This was completed and inaugurated during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June last year.

The second phase of the project included the supply of education materials, equipment and vocational training, computer training, library office and furniture.

The total cost of the project was Tk 105 million, which was financed by the Indian government.
