He also said legal steps will be taken against distortion of Nazrul Sangeet 'in anyway'.

"We will move the court if necessary," he said at a programme marking the poet's 40th death anniversary on Friday.

The Nazrul researcher said the institute will recover 1,500 Nazrul songs from old gramophone records and publish their notations to stop distortion.

"If we can't do this, there will be no reason to have this Nazrul Institute in the first place," he said.

Ten CDs of 500 Nazrul songs recorded in line with the old gramophone records and notations were released in the programme.

"We have released these CDs to stop Nazrul Sangeet being distorted," the institute's Executive Director Ikram Ahmed said.

The poet's granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi and MP Fazle Noor Taposh, among others, were present at the programme in Dhanmondi's 'Kobi Bhaban'.
