RAB-12’s Hatikumrhul Camp Commander Maj Hasibul Islam said the ‘gunfight’ took place in the Upazila around 4am on Thursday.

He identified the two deceased as Sanwar Hossain Sanu, 32, of Kamarkhanda and Lutfur Rahman, 55, of Chatmohar Upazila.

Aside from being as known terrorists, the duo also worked as assassins for hire, Islam claimed. “Both of them were accused in a number of cases.”

He told bdnews24.com that Sanwar and Lutfur had died on the spot during the ‘shootout’.

The official said RAB had recovered two guns, two knives and eight rounds of bullets from the scene.

Later, RAB-12 Commander Additional DIG Md Shahabuddin Khan told reporters that the terrorists had gathered in Kamarkhanda’s Jamtoil Collegeparha area.

“When RAB personnel arrived there, the terrorists started shooting at them. RAB officials then returned fire. Around 30 minutes later, the two top terrorists were found with bullet injuries near a bridge.”

They were rushed to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, but the doctors on duty declared them dead, Khan said.

He claimed both Sanwar and Lutfur had been involved in the Jun 16 murder of Kamarkhanda Union Council member Mahbubul Alam.

“Sanwar has eight murder and robbery cases against him at different police stations. Lutfur is mostly known as an assassin for hire. He is also an accused in several cases.”

The RAB-12 commander said two of his officers, Sub-Inspector Al Mahmud and Constable Sazzad Hossain, were also injured during the ‘gunfight’. They were given first aid.
