Trial starts against Destiny’s Harun, Amin, 49 others in Tk 41 billion embezzlement

A court in  Dhaka has ordered the start of the trial of Destiny 2000 Ltd President and former army chief Gen Harunur Rashid, Managing Director Rafiqul Amin and 49 others in two cases over embezzlement and siphoning off the subscribers’ money.

The persons accused in the cases are charged in the cases with embezzling Tk 41.19 billion from Destiny Group concerns – Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd and Destiny Tree Plantation Ltd.

After framing the charges against them on Wednesday, Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Qamrul Hossain Molla set Sep 29 to start recording of witness depositions.

Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, the lawyer for Anti Corruption Commission, said the judge also ordered that the case files be  forwarded to another court that will record testimonies.

The ACC prosecuted them on July 31, 2012 and pressed charges in court on May 5, 2014.

Destiny Chairman Mohammad Hossain and MD Amin were among the accused who were brought to the court from jail.

Rashid, out on bail, also appeared before court.

All of them pleaded not guilty.
