She expressed joy to over the increased success rate of girls and hoped they would be just successful as boys next year.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the results to the Prime Minister at a ceremony in Ganabhaban on Thursday.

“Girls seem to be ahead of boys in the competition, so boys must not fall behind. I want them to study properly and be as successful in the future.”

This year 74.70 percent students have passed the HSC and equivalent examinations and 58,276 have achieved GPA-5.

Success rate among boys is 73.93 percent against 75.60 percent among girls. Last year, 69.60 percent students passed with 42,894 GPA-5 achievers.

“I am happy to see the pass rate increase and happier to see the overall number and pass rate of female students going up,” said Hasina.

“Whether male or female, all of them are students. But boys should be more attentive in studies as they have a tendency to roam around outside and do mischief.”

Calling upon parents and teachers to take greater care of the students, she said: “Children will play around and do mischief. We also want them to engage in sports. Sports and cultural activities are necessary for fitness. But study is a priority.”

The prime minister, having seen students from other countries, remarked that Bangladeshi students were most talented.

“I had the fortune to visit different schools across the globe and talk with the students there. I have always felt that our boys and girls are very talented. They just need the opportunities,” she said adding that government colleges will be established in all the Upazilas.
