Judge Abdur Rahim of the District and Session Judge’s Court delivered the verdict on Wednesday in the presence of seven of the convicts, Public Prosecutor (PP) Nripendranath Mandal said.

Those who will walk the gallows are Ali Toraf, Chaitun Molla, ‘Safadul’, Mochhiruddin, ‘Anu’, Abu Hasan Dilip and Montu Mia.

The one with the life sentence was Mahbub Alam Babu.

Of them, Montu is still on the run.

PP Nripendranath said the court exempted another accused from the charge as he had died during the trial.

Quoting case details, he said the convicts hacked and beat Abdul Matin of the Upazila’s Dharki village on Oct 27, 2006, over previous enmity.

Matin’s brother started the murder case with the Sadar police against nine people later that day.

Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Golam Rabbani had submitted the chargesheet accusing the nine on Mar 30, 2007.
