The Canadian High Commission on Monday said they would be providing 250,000 Canadian dollars through the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund (CHAF) in support of CARE Canada’s humanitarian response in Bangladesh.

The six-month project from Aug 15 to next year’s Feb 15 will provide non-food item kits and unconditional cash transfers for up to 10,000 flood-affected people in northern district of Kurhigram.

The overall CHAF budget for this project in Bangladesh is 333,333 Canadian dollars.

Canada is also providing 30,000 Canadian dollars through the Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund (EDAF) in support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' humanitarian response to the floods in Bangladesh.

The recent flood is caused by heavy rainfall in the northern and north-east part of Bangladesh as well as in the Indian States of Assam and Meghalaya.

The High Commission hopes that “Canada’s support will allow people to get back on their feet as soon as possible.”
