Both the Indian trawlers sank on Saturday with at least 17 people on board.

Bangladesh Coast Guard’s Mongla Zone chief Captain Mehedi Masud said that the five  bodies were found early morning at sea, nearly 30 km away from the Hiron Point of the Sundarbans.

India had informed Bangladesh that the two fishing trawlers sank around 2pm on Saturday, with 17 to 20 people on board.

“Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Sangu, which was at the Hiron Point, launched a search and rescue operation in the evening. Later, another navy ship joined the operation,” said Captain Masud.

He added that three speedboats, a helicopter and an Indian coast guard ship have also joined the rescue mission.
