The suspect, identified as ‘Mithu’, 28, from Muradnagar Upazila, works as a driver for BNP leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu’s family.

A joint team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Detective Branch arrested Mithu on Monday afternoon, Comilla Superintendent of Police Shah Abid told bdnews24.com.

“A white microbus was seen wandering in front of Holey Artisan Bakery on the day of the Gulshan attack. Mithu is suspected to have been driving that car,” he said.

He was taken to Dhaka where the carnage took place on July 1.

Security forces gunned down six militants to rescue hostages from the cafe on July 2.

A woman was reportedly detained in Narsinghdi earlier on July 21 over the attack.

Police have also arrested the acting pro-vice chancellor of North South University and three others on charges of sheltering the attackers.

Two of the rescued hostages – Hasanat Reza Karim and Tahmid Hasib Khan – have been questioned for their suspected link to the attack.

They have not returned home, according to their families, though police said they had been released.

At least 22 persons, including 17 foreigners and two policemen, died in the attack.
