Customs officials have seized a Volkswagen imported by dodging duty.

Customs Intelligence chief Moyeenul Khan said C&F agent ST International cleared the blue Volkswagen Golf S at Mongla Port on Mar 8.
It was registered with Bay Tannery in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh, he said.
The tannery handed the car over to the customs on Sunday.
According to Khan, Kakrail’s TBH was named as the importer in the false declaration.
He said Customs Intelligence had kept an eye on the car for a long time.
According to the invoice, the car with 1,398cc engine capacity is priced around Tk 2 million. The importer paid Tk 2.5 million in duty in line with the price and horsepower shown.
“An investigation found the UK registration papers showing the capacity 1,984cc,” Khan said.
He said the duty to import the car should be Tk 4.2 million as per the actual capacity.
