The incident took place around 3am on Sunday at a village in the southwestern district’s Narhagathi area.
Local police OC Mahbubur Rahman said that the victim has been identified as 34-year-old ‘Mizan.’
He said that Mizan was wanted in several cases of robbery and for possessing illegal firearms. He was arrested from Gopalganj district town on Saturday night.
“Mizan was being transported to Narhagati. When the police vehicle reached at Pahardanga area, his accomplices attacked with firearms to snatch him,” the police officer told bdnews24.com.
Mizan was caught in the crossfire and died on the spot, he claimed.
Police have seized a firearm, four rounds of ammunition and two sharp weapons from the scene of the ambush.
