“Teachers can play the most important role in stopping students from joining militants,” he said in a meeting with the authorities of public universities on Saturday.
“The teachers will have to be aware of their responsibilities. Some so-called teachers are misleading our children. Please find them,” he said.
The University Grants Commission organised the meeting against the backdrop of investigation findings that suggested that university students were joining militant groups after running away from home.
The education minister urged the teachers to take care of the students individually.
He emphasised keeping the students engaged in educational activities to tackle militancy.
Nahid also said his ministry had asked some educational institutions to investigate their students’ link to militancy two years ago.
“Many of them did not take any step and now they are making headlines,” he added.
Students of North South University, BRAC University, Scholastica school, educational institutions for children of well-off families, were among those who carried out the recent terror attacks.
“From now on, we will not stop only after investigation. We will monitor these activities regularly, continue communication and take joint steps,” the prime minister said.
