BGB team in India’s Agartala for regional commander level talk with BSF

For improving the co-ordination between the border guards of India and Bangladesh a 20 member team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrived here Sunday to take part in the four day BSF-BGB regional commanders conference.

The BGB team led by Additional Director General (ADG) Md Habibul Karim said the main agenda of the talk will be on better border management through coordination, cooperation through exchange of information with its counterpart for achieving peace on both sides of the border.

“The main agenda of this meeting are the border management issues and we will discuss other issues of the field level and our sector commanders have also accompanied along with the regional commanders and shall discuss about the minor aspects of the border issues. This is generally held prior to the DG level meeting at Delhi," said Karim.

"This coordination meeting is very essential at the field level and we will coordinate following the decision at the higher level.”

He also expressed his concern on the growing fundamentalist activist and terrorism and viewed it can only be neutralised only by mutual cooperation and real time exchange of information between the forces.

Meantime, the BSF team leader IG Meghalaya P K Dubey said that the main concern of the India side are trans border crime, growing fundamentalist activities with ISI support, terrorism, cattle smuggling and infiltration.

“The main issues from this side are the threat of fundamentalist which has cropped up after the Dhaka death. We have sensitised our counterpart about the sensitivity which India has got regarding this fundamentalist platform and ISI elements. Besides this cattle smuggling and crossing over of the international border by Bangladeshis shall also be discussed,” said IG Dubey.

The team was given a warm welcome in the tradition customs with tribal 'Risha' (cloth made in traditional loom) in the background music of drums with children wearing indigenous attire.

The discussion shall start Sunday afternoon and continue until Jul 27 followed by a joint media briefing.

India and Bangladesh has a long 4096-km border of which Tripura’s shares 856 km with most of it fenced except few small pockets and riverine areas.
