Madrasa teacher held for ‘sheltering’ Sholakia attacker

RAB has arrested a madrasa teacher in Gaibandha for allegedly sheltering a Sholokia attack suspect held with bullet wounds after the attack.

Madrasa teacher Md Anwar Hossain, 48, was arrested from Gobindaganj Upazila on Friday night and later handed over to police, RAB Gaibandha camp official Md Kaisar Ali said.
 
The suspected attacker, Shafiul Islam, a madrasa student from Dinajpur, told after his arrest on July 7 that he had been a tenant of Anwar from February to May.
 
He also said he took part in the attack on orders from his ‘chieftain’.
 
Anwar told the RAB in initial interrogation that he had not seen anyone other than Shafiul and his so-called brother.
 
Gobindaganj Police Station OC Mozammel Haque told bdnews24.com police were investigating whether militants were using Anwar’s house as a training camp.
 
Anwar’s wife Tuhin Begum said Shafiul stayed in the house with his wife and a child.
 
“We didn’t know what he was. He did not usually leave the house,” she added.
 
Shafiul is also accused of murdering a Hindu priest in Panchagarh.
