The team of three was sent to a shoal in the northern district of Sirajganj on Friday, Deputy Conservator of Forests Shahab Uddin told bdnews24.com.

He said the Bangladeshi officials would fix the next course of action after consulting Indian experts who are coming to Bangladesh within a couple of days.

“The elephant is roaming around safely. We are keeping the onlookers away so that they cannot throw stones at it,” Uddin added.

He said the department was reviewing ways to relocate the elephant by tranquilising it.

The animal, believed to be from Indian state of Assam, was washed away through the Kurigram border on June 26.

It travelled to Sirajganj via Gaibandha, Bogra and Jamalpur.

Conservator of Forests Asit Ranjan Paul, returning from a meeting in New Delhi on Friday, told bdnews24.com he had spoken to the central government of India about the issue.

“I have also spoken to the chief forest conservator of Assam. They are sending a team of experts within three days,” he added.
