The process started last year, police sources say. As many as two million forms were distributed for the purpose, of which more than 1.8 million have been received, police say.
However, following the militant attacks in Gulshan and Sholakia, Detective Branch (DB) spokesperson Md Masudur Rahman has asked landlords to speed up the process.
“Police have conducted raids on many houses and recovered explosives from many terrorists living as tenants.”
Masudur said if photographs and other details are obtained from tenants the ones faking identities can be nailed.
Mess owners in the capital have also been asked to collect and provide tenant details to police.
