Three suspects in the murder of SP Babul’s wife remanded

A court in Chittagong has remanded three suspects, including Ehteshamul Haque Bhola who allegedly supplied the arms used to kill SP Babul Aktar’s wife last month, in police custody for three days.

The other two suspects are Md Shahjahan Mia and Saidul Alam Shikdar alias ‘Saku’, who is the brother of another suspect Kamrul Islam Shikdar alias Musa.
 
The court police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chakrabarty said Metropolitan Magistrate Harunur Rashid granted the remand plea on Sunday.
 
SP Babul’s wife Mahmuda Aktar Mitu was hacked first and then shot dead on the port city’s OR Nizam Road, near the GEC Intersection, on the morning of June 5. 
 
She was attacked when she was on her way to drop their son for the school bus.
 
The names of Bhola and Shahjahan, who reportedly directly took part in the killing, came up in the confessional statements of two other arrestees in the case - Motalab Mia Wasim and Anwar Hossain.
 
Following their ‘confessions’, police arrested Bhola and his accomplice ‘Monir’ in the city’s Baklia with two guns and some ammunition on June 28.
 
The two were produced before court after Bhola was shown arrested in the arms and murder cases, and Monir only in the arms case.
 
Police had earler taken  both of them into custody for interrogation for three days in the arms case.
 
They said Saku and Shahjahan were arrested on July 1.
