The United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) organised the four-day Bangladesh Model United Nations (BANMUN) 2016 at Adamjee Cantonment College in Dhaka with the theme “adolescence sexual reproductive health”.

University Grant Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, MP Md Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP Nahim Razzaq, and Principal of Adamjee Cantonment College Brigadier General Tameem Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the closing ceremony on Saturday.

It was like the UN annual assembly held every year in September in New York where heads of state and government discuss different issues in different sessions and pass resolutions for future actions.

Over 650 students from 58 schools participated this year, acting as representatives of the UN member states and discussed all the 17 goals of the new SDGs.

They were divided into 10 committees for the discussion. Each committee prepared a draft resolution paper on their agenda which was passed in the plenary, moderated by BANMUN 2016 Secretary General Mohammad Mamun Mia.

Ten participants who were selected as the ‘Best Delegate’ from each of the committee were awarded at the closing ceremony.

Another 30 participants were conferred ‘Special Award’ for outstanding performance and ‘Best Position Paper’.

During the committee sessions, national and international issues such as women and children rights violation in Syria, international migration and its effect on world economy were addressed.

This was the eighth such event the UNYSAB organised since 2002. The UN Information Centre in Dhaka supported them.
